Link   Trail closure in Westerville
In partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation, the City's Parks and Recreation Department is proposing a rebuild project that includes the Westerville Ohio to Erie Trail from Old County Line Rd. to Electric Ave. The project will add flashing beacons at several intersections as well. Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2026.

Towpath Trail closure in Cuyahoga County 
The Towpath Trail is closed in the Ohio & Erie Canal Reservation under the CSX Railroad. 
Bypass option:
Southbound: On Towpath turn left where closure is onto bridge to go over Canal, take the All Purpose Trail up the hill behind Canalway Visitor Center, turn left onto Whittlesey Way, take Whittlesey Way to East 49th turn right. Take 49th to entrance to enter back onto Towpath.
Northbound: Turn right off of Towpath at closure, go up hill and turn left onto East 49th. Turn left from E.49th onto Whittlesey Way, take Whittlesey Way down to Canalway Center and enter onto All Purpose Trail behind Canalway. Take All Purpose Trail  onto bridge over the canal and turn right back onto Towpath heading north.

 Link   41.321385, -81.586811 Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath is closed in Summit County under State Route 82/West Aurora Road in Sagamore Hills Township due to bridge repair and construction. 
The trail closure is through early November although the bridge project is expected to last until summer 2026, so expect intermittent closures after mid November.  No Detour provided.

Stark Parks Towpath Trail

Trail surface work will be ongoing from Aug. 27 to late afternoon on Aug. 29, 2025 between Forty Corners Trailhead and Butterbridge Ave.
Please follow all trail closure signage, barricades, and instructions by Trail Crew members or Park Rangers.
Trail users can use the Olde Muskingum Trail on the west side of the Tuscarawas River as an alternative route around the section.
No Detour is available.

 NA 39.980672, -82.956673  Columbus Downtown Connector (670 Trail) There is construction on Leonard Avenue. The side path used for the Ohio to Erie Trail route is closed, but a bicyclist could ride with vehicle traffic in the street and pick up the trail on the opposite side of the bridge over 670. The trail is closed between between Taylor Ave and the trail continuation on the north side of 670. No Detour available.   December 2024 Open for now, construction to continue Spring 2026

ROUTE CHANGE
 NA  39.087115, -84.421966 ROUTE CHANGE ANNOUNCEMENT: 
The official Ohio to Erie Trail route has now changed to the eastern route around the Lunken Municipal airport on the Little Miami Scenic Trail.  With this change, the OTET route northbound follows the Ohio River Trail and joins the Little Miami Scenic Trail at mile 0. 
This change is already reflected on our interactive map and still shows the previous route as a light green alternative route.  
We are working on updating the pertinent Ride with GPS files and our local board member is checking on the signage placement modifications which may be needed.

ROUTE CHANGE
 Link  41.488331, -81.704332 Route Change: Follow the Towpath Trail through Scranton Flats and along Carter Road. Cross the Carter Road Bridge and continue on the towpath to Canal Basin Park. Exit the park on Center Street near the Swing Bridge. Cross the Center Street Swing Bridge and take Detroit Ave to the start of the Centennial Lake Link Trail.
The Ohio to Erie Trail route via Franklin Ave will be closed for the next two years due to the Irishtown Bend Stabilization Project. Irishtown Bend is located between West 25th Street and the Cuyahoga River, and between Columbus Road and the Detroit Superior Bridge. Irishtown Bend Park is expected to be complete in 2026.

*ANNOUNCEMENT: 
The new trail section is now open in Sunbury. For northbound, you can pick up the new trail at Cherry Street at location 40.242711, -82.852419. The trail goes over the Big Walnut Creek and has nice bump outs for viewing areas.  Even with this new trail, there will still be a 1/2 mile street connector section for the near future. Visit the NEWS link for details and supplemental map panels for NC4 and NC5.  Updated Ride with GPS files are available.

BEWARE OF WET BOARDWALKS

 

Please use caution on any wet wooden or composite trail bridge, many are VERY slippery after rain. Some boardwalk areas have signs to remind riders to dismount and walk and some do not have signs of warning.
